MY ALLSTATE HORROR STORY

My son had a wreck but the truck was drivable enough to make it home, barely. Anyway, before I called the insurance company I had him take the truck ( a 1996 Ford Ranger) to a body shop just for general principle. We then called the insurance company which was Allstate. He then took the truck to the body shop they decided on and their adjuster met him there. Their adjuster immediately totaled the truck so he brought it home after getting a third estimate. That body shop also totaled the truck.

Anyway, they made arrangements to come and get the truck but guess what happened then. They came and got the truck and took it back to Tulsa and believe it or not they decided to fix the truck. They decided it wasn't totaled after all. We went around and around even had the insurance commission in on it but they would not change their mind. The insurance commission could not figure it out either but the lady at the insurance office in Tulsa told me and I quote "I've made my decision and that's final you or no one else is going to make me change my mind". Well, needless to say this ruined my credit. Before all this my credit was perfect but it took them three months to ever come and get the truck to take it back to Tulsa so they could say Hey, it's not totaled after all.

Guess I forgot to say I do have all this in writing, estimates, insurance figures, names and even the letter from the insurance commission, but since I couldn't afford a lawyer and by then my son had another truck to drive to work since his Ranger was supposed to have been totaled.

This was three years ago and believe me I have cried many a tears over this. My credit was always very important to me and this lady at the insurance office in Tulsa destroyed it and the difference was less than $100.00, she wouldn't say Okay it's been three months and three adjusters, one of them being an allstate adjuster, told you the truck was totaled so we'll settle it with you . Sorry to keep on but it still bothers me and probably will from now on especially the bad credit part.

"There is no incentive for insurance companies to do what is right, such as live up to the promises made in their policies. Tort reformers fueled by insurance money think big business and the insurance industry need to be protected against "runaway juries." It's the other way around. Big business and the insurance industry have always been able to take care of themselves. The little people need protection from them. This country was founded on the common law right of the little guy to get into court with his hired gun to fight the oppressor, be it big government or big business. Take that away and we have nothing left. Look around. It's being whittled away, bit by bit, caps on damages here, restrictions on jury trials there. It won't end until we recognize the enemy and join together to take a stand against them. It will take the little people to do this together".
